No to health care?

Bob Karbowski of Bay City participates in a rally Saturday afternoon on Washington Ave. in downtown Bay City, Mich. His sign reads, 'Can you name anyone who's been refused health care? Me neither.' Karbowski said that universal health care is a scam because no one today is actually being refused treatment. The Bay County Taxpayers Association sponsored the rally, as part of a nationwide rally against universal health care.

Gretchen Vincent of Saginaw and her daughter Caitlin Vincent, 24, voice their opinions on universal healthcare by holding signs along Washington Ave. in Bay City Saturday. Caitlin equates universal health care to death care because she feels that the elderly and those with chronic conditions would have less priority for treatment under the system.

Swim

It's hard to get an action-portrait of a swimmer because they are underwater, face down, and when their face is not down it's making some kind of contorted gasp for air.... So.... here is what I got for a feature on Lindsey Martin of Bay City Central. There's the standard Bay City Times portrait shot, then some other shots that I didn't think I pulled off initially, but ended up liking.

Time for Tennis

tennis
I know the ball isn't in this photo, but this kid was sooooo animated. Also, I've started using curves to tone instead of levels, and I like the results I got on these photos.

Bee Keeper

This kid was really cool. He's 10, he just got stung by a swarm of bees, but he doesn't care. I'm hoping to go back, get a bee keeper's suit for myself and get some crazy bee shots. :)

Buick Open!

One day last week I found out that I had credentials to get into the PGA Buick Open in Grand Blanc, Michigan, and I am SO glad that I went! I was scared at first because there are so many rules to photographing golf. I had only ever shot golf twice, and never of those times were anything close to a PGA event! My only regret is that I only went on Sunday (there were 4 days to the tournament). I'd like to say that I am looking forward to shooting this again someday, but unfortunately this was probably the last year for the Buick Open since Buick has suspended it's sponsorship of the event. It's really a shame... in Michigan, the state with the most golf courses in the country and the craziest fans in the PGA on that infamous 17th hole at Warwick Hills (see the photo of the green man below!)

Michael Letzig. Everyone felt bad that he was paired with Tiger Woods and had to put up with the mobs of people trailing their every move yelling, "TIIIIIGERR!"
