Miss Utah

This photo was actually censored... since I work for a Mormon-owned newspaper, they don't run bikini photos.

Miss Utah County took the Miss Utah title.

The show was Spy themed.

Death Penalty Protestors (Night of Ronnie Lee Gardener Execution)

If you've been watching the news you've probably seen Utah in the headlines. Utah is a death penalty state, and it's one of the last to allow execution by firing squad. Utahn Ronnie Lee Gardener chose that option, and his life ended at 12:20am this morning. I was off yesterday, but decided to go out and shoot some of the protesters at the state capitol.

A Slow Mail Day in Utah

...just kidding! But it was interesting to watch a re-enactment of the Pony Express trot its way through the main street (State Street) in Salt Lake City.

El Observador/Soy una periodista fotografica

The Deseret News publishes a Spanish language newspaper called El Observador de Utah, and I got to shoot my first assignment for them Saturday. It was an interesting experience showing up at a Latino community safety meeting/summer celebration and trying to figure out what was going on. I can read Spanish, but I have a hard time speaking it and understanding people that talk fast. The assignment ended up being really fun once the safety part was over and the celebration began. It will actually be nice to finally use what I learned through four years of Spanish classes!

Welcome to the Jell-O Belt

Did you know that Utah is considered the "Jell-O Belt"? They consume the most Jell-O per capita in the world, and according to my roommates Mormon particularity enjoy green Jell-O with chunks of carrots.

Anyway, this photo is from my 2nd day of work when Jell-O came through casting kids with the best giggle for their new commercials.

The Wild Wild West

I saw so much amazing wildlife on my journey from Michigan to Utah last week. These photos are all of wild animals roaming Badlands National Park in South Dakota. I used a 70-300mm 4.5-5 .6 lens that I rented from thelensdepot.com prairie dog
