Do you know Fred Gray?

Well, you should.

You think MLK was the symbol of Civil Rights in America?Well, he may have been the image, but Fred Gray was the mastermind, the true leader, the man with the plan.

I had the fortune to meet Attorney Fred Gray last week while I was volunteering in Tuskegee, Alabama. To be honest, I had never heard of Mr. Gray until this trip, but now I will never forget him.

HE PICKED Martin Luther King, Jr. to be the figurehead of Civil Rights.

HE TOLD Rosa Parks to ride the bus.

HE REPRESENTED the 600+ men in the Tuskegee Syphilis Study (look it up if you don't know what it is)

At age 20 he began his quest to desegregate everything he could find in Alabama. He is a remarkable, yet, often forgotten Civil Rights hero.

His birthday was last week, and I, along with 10 others from CMU got to execute the event. We had an amazing time. We were trained in diversity by the amazing duo of Gary and Cynthia Hines of Talented Network. We experienced true Southern hospitality.

We saw the diparity and prosperity and future hope of a beautiful community between Montgomery and Auburn.

As the residents say, come back in a few years. Come back and see what we've done.

History is alive in Tuskegee, Alabama.

Bikini Girls

So these are from October. Dave had me help him shoot some potential calendar photos down at the Chippewa River. It was an unseasonably warm day, but not as warm as these photos make it look!

Video Stills

So, I don't particularly enjoy shooting video for newspapers because it's a one-(wo)man job and is very stressful, but I had to do it for my Honors Program Senior Project/Creative Endeavor. I made a super sweet video, which will very soon be featured on It's about the Wildlife Recovery Association and their work with birds of prey.

Here are some stills! Can you believe these are from a video camera? I think they look pretty good!

painting w/light

really long shutter (30 secs to 1 min) + off camera strobes + flashlights= awesome

I don't usually shoot sports. It's not because I don't want or like to, it's just that I either forget about the games, never knew about the games, or am busy during the games. I actually made it out to see Toledo beat CMU last weekend in soccer though.

This last photo is bad, but I put it up because I think they look like they are pair ice skating.

Introducing Fernando...the new family pet... ?

Well, I went home for my birthday weekend. Nothing too exciting happened. I did take a lot of photos though, some stuff for a story on goth culture that I'll post later. The coolest thing I found out this weekend, though, was that a little dude named Fernando, a preying mantis, has taken up residence on my mom's flowers by the garage. He's like a family pet. I even saw my dad pet him!
